What to Design in September

Ahh, September is here! The start of fall, changing leaves, and cooler temps – this month marks a colorful change in seasons. The love for the new season can leave you with endless ideas. Hopefully today’s post will leave you with some inspiration and spark some new ideas. Use the themes below to create new SVGs, patterns, stickers, printables, clipart, and more!  Without further ado, let’s get into what to design in September.

Project Ideas

Wow! This month has a tonnn of National Days/Awareness weeks. I could see design collections for everything listed above. My Gymnastics designs are some of my most popular SVGs!

National Step Family Day is a great reminder to include designs for all parental family types. This includes step parents, grandparents who act as parents, or any other parental roles that might exist. There are tons of designs for Mom, Dad, Grandma, and Grandpa, but what about Mum, Papa, Nana, Mimi? My Family Claus Bundle is a good example of including many family names, but it can go beyond simple designs like this!

September and October are some of my favorite months. Fall hikes, changing leaves, pumpkin pies, pumpkin spice everything, donuts, caramel apples, apple cider, color drives… the list goes on and on. There’s so much inspiration just from Fall activities! If you’re an illustrator you can sell clipart sets, patterns, stickers, sublimation designs, printables, and more.

If you design social media graphics or sales graphics, Labor Day is a huge sales event that you’d want to have designs for. I don’t typically design things like that, but I know that type of work is pretty popular on Creative Market. For any big sales day you will want to have the designs done and listed well before the actual sales event so business owners have enough time to prepare.

Thinking Ahead

Halloween is next month, so make sure you’ve got your designs up now! Are you leaning into the retro theme or maybe taking a spin on cute Halloween?

Thanksgiving is also around the corner! Think about clipart and decor you could make for get togethers for family or friends. Friendsgiving is a trend that keeps getting bigger each year too.

Evergreen Projects

And lastly, I always like to share some evergreen projects to get you thinking about topics you might not have in your design catalog yet! This month I want to talk about National Awareness Months. Yeah I’ll post most of these during their respective months, but it’s nice to have a compiled list together if you’re wanting to work ahead! But also because a lot of these topics are valid year-round. ◡̈
